The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Sarfaraz Ahmed has been replaced by Mohammad Rizwan as a concussion substitute in the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Singhalese Sports Club.

The replacement was approved by match referee David Boon after Pakistan team management’s request for the substitution.

Sarfaraz was hit on his head while ducking a bouncer by Asitha Fernando in the afternoon session on day three. He remains under the observation of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical panel.

Sarfaraz was batting on 14 when he went off the field.

According to International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, if a player sustains a concussion as a result of a head or neck injury during the match, a Concussion Replacement may be permitted.

However, the head or neck injury must have been sustained during play and within the playing area and a concussion must have been formally diagnosed by the team.

If the aforementioned conditions are met, the medical representative or team’s manager shall submit a Concussion Replacement request to the ICC Match Referee.

The requested Concussion Replacement should be a like-for-like replacement for the player who has sustained the concussion.
