Former Bangladeshi captain Shakib-Al-Hasan is widely considered one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of cricket but his aggressive nature has often landed him into a pool of controversy and the same happened once again.

Shakib, who has had a history of not being able to control his anger, almost lost his cool once again when a fan requested him for a selfie before the match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club (SJDC) and Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Shakib was having a conversation with coaches Mohammad Salauddin and Sohail Islam when a fan approached him and requested a selfie. The Bangladeshi all-rounder couldn’t bear the interruption and made gestures of beating him up while taking his phone away.

However, this wasn’t the first Shakib made headlines for reasons other than cricket. In the ICC World Cup 2023, he remained on the front pages for appealing to time-out Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews, a gesture which wasn’t appreciated by the cricket fraternity and was declared against “the spirit of cricket”.

The incident was not tolerated by Sri Lanka and Matthews's brother, Trevin Matthew, even said that stones would be thrown at Shakib if he stepped inside the country.

"We are very disappointed. The Bangladesh captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman’s game," Trevin told Deccan Chronicle.

"Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or the LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him or he will have to face the annoyance of fans," he added.

He has also unleashed his anger on match officials in the past when the decision didn't go in his favour.
