FIFA is taking "appropriate internal action" in response to the celebrity chef Salt Bae's violations of FIFA World Cup rules after Argentina's victory over France.

Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gokce, posed for pictures with Argentina players on Sunday in Qatar.

He is frequently spotted with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and football players around the world.

According to FIFA regulations, only "very select" individuals —including champions of the competition, officials of the football's governing body, and heads of state — are permitted to hold the trophy, which they described as "a priceless icon".

"Following a review, FIFA has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on Dec. 18. The appropriate internal action will be taken," a FIFA spokesperson told BBC.

The mega final of FIFA saw Argentina beat defending champions France by 4-2 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

After the incident, the US Open Cup barred the chef from the competition's final.

"Salt Bae is hereby banned from the 2023 Open Cup final," the tournament's official Twitter handle wrote.

He was captured on camera gripping Lionel Messi's arm on the field after Argentina triumphed in a thrilling 3-3 tie in a penalty shootout.

The legendary player appeared agitated in the video but afterward posed for a picture Salt Bae shared on Instagram.
