Following Argentina's historic triumph over France in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final on last Sunday, Lionel Messi posted a photo of himself sleeping with the trophy.

Argentina clinched their third-ever FIFA World Cup after beating France on penalties after a 3-3 draw at the Lusail Stadium, Qatar.

The Argentine skipper scored twice during the high-octane final and also scored in the dramatic penalty shootout after field play.

When Messi and the company arrived back from Qatar, they were given a heroic welcome. Even though the squad didn't arrive in the city until after midnight on Tuesday, thousands of people stormed the streets of Buenos Aires.

After a grand celebration with the fans, the 35-year-old decided to carry the FIFA World Cup trophy on his bed.

Messi took to Instagram and uploaded pictures of himself embracing it beneath the blankets.

"Good morning," he wrote.

Earlier, Messi's FIFA World Cup final Instagram post became the most-liked of any sportsperson.

Messi's post received an astounding 58 million likes so far after he posted it.

It outperformed Ronaldo's post from last month, which garnered 41.9 million likes and featured the Portuguese star and Messi playing chess in a Louis Vuitton advertisement prior to the FIFA World Cup 2022.
