Former Chennai Super Kings player Ambati Rayudu on Thursday shared an old video featuring CSK players gesturing the number 5, indicating the number of times they had won the IPL.

The post, captioned "Sometimes a gentle reminder is required," came a day after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were eliminated from the IPL 2024 following their loss to the Rajasthan Royals.

On Wednesday, during the commentary after the RR vs RCB match, Rayudu remarked that passion and celebration alone don’t win a team the IPL trophy, which was seen as a subtle dig at the Faf du Plessis-led franchise.

“If you talk about RCB, it shows that only passion and celebration don’t win you trophies. You don’t get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. Don’t think you will win the trophy just by beating CSK,” he had said.

The issue between the two franchises has been simmering since RCB managed to pull off a remarkable victory against CSK in their final group stage game of IPL 2024 last Saturday.

Needing to defend 17 runs in the final over, Yash Dayal claimed Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s wicket on the second ball to help RCB qualify.

It was one of the most significant turnarounds of IPL 2024 since RCB had been at the bottom of the standings at one stage.

Naturally, the RCB players celebrated the exuberantly.

However, visuals from the ground suggested that RCB players were so engrossed in celebrating their victory that they may have overlooked a few formalities.

This irritated analysts such as former England captain Michael Vaughan and Harsha Bhogle. Both felt that RCB players should have first shaken hands with CSK players, especially Dhoni, given the uncertainty about whether Dhoni will participate in the IPL again.

Since Dhoni has retired from international cricket, he only features in the IPL.

Rajasthan will now play Hyderabad on 24th May in Qualifier 2, and the winner will play KKR in the final on 26th May.

Remember, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made their fourth IPL final after they hammered Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first playoff on Tuesday.
