Gujarat Titans beat Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs on Friday and moved to eighth spot in the IPL 2024 points table.

The Shubman Gill-led side now have 10 points from 12 games and can make a push for the playoffs if it wins its remaining games.

Meanwhile, CSK are at fourth with 12 points with two matches left.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are at the top with 16 points while Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are out of the playoff race.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan slammed centuries which led Gujarat Titans got to 231/3 from their 20 overs. Sudharsan made 103 off 51 balls while Gill scored 104 off 55 balls.

While defending, Mohit Sharma’s three wickets restricted Chennai Super Kings to 196/8.

While Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali chipped in with half-centuries it felt like CSK had a chance however, after they fell it was one-way traffic.

It must be noted Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the joint-most successful teams in IPL history, with both sides clinching the title five times each.

Aside from these two, KKR has triumphed twice, while Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Deccan Chargers have each lifted the trophy once.

Despite boasting legendary figures in the shorter format such as Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, and others, Royal Challengers Bangalore have yet to claim the title despite reaching the final thrice in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
