The future of the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh (MS) Dhoni has been a topic of discussion for a long time and the franchise has provided a big update regarding the 42-year-old's future plans, reported The Times of India on Monday.
Dhoni has already announced retirement from international cricket. Many believed that the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was his last season but no one for sure knows about it.
A CSK official told The Times of India that Dhoni will communicate his decision in the coming months as he was devasted after losing the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since he couldn’t lift the title in what could be his last season.
On the first ball of the last over while chasing, Dhoni smashed a massive 110-metre six on Yash Dayal’s knee-height full toss that went out of the ground. The ball had to be replaced after which Dayal managed to remove the 42-year-old on the very next ball and conceded only 1 run in the remaining four deliveries.
"The ball was lost and had to be replaced. Dayal got a drier ball and suddenly hitting became difficult," a senior CSK official said.
"Dhoni has not told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call," the report quoted a source as saying. "He did not feel any discomfort in his running between the wickets and that is a plus.
"We will wait for Dhoni's communication. He always has the best interests of the team in mind, let's see what happens," the CSK official concluded.
As he will turn 43 in July this year, it will be interesting to see what Dhoni decides for his future as despite not getting much batting time, he played aggressive cricket for CSK this season and scored 161 runs in 11 innings at a massive strike rate of 220.54.
