Pakistan announce star-studded squad for CAVA Nation’s Volleyball League

Pakistan team head coach Ruben Wolochin named the team following weeks of training

ISLAMABAD: Murad Jehan was named captain of the Pakistan team that will participate in the Engro Central Asian Volleyball League starting on May 11 here at Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex.

Pakistan team head coach Ruben Wolochin, who hails from Argentina, named the team following weeks of training and series of exhibition matches. Besides captain Murad, other members of the team are Muhammad Kashif Naveed (vice-captain), Waleed Khan, Murad Khan, Aimal Khan, Usman Faryad Ali, Fakhar Ud Din, Afaq Khan, Abdul Zaheer, Musawer Khan, Muhammad Hamad, Ali Haider, Nasir Ali and Muhammad Yaseen.

The support staff includes Ruben Wolochin, Saeed Ahmad Khan Sady and Ehsan Iqbal (assistant coaches). Brazilian Lucas Rodrigues will be with the team as a physical trainer while Muhammad Ismail Khan, Muhammad Suleman Amin and Juan Cobucci, Scoutman from Argentina will join the Pakistan volleyball team as Assistant Scoutmen.

“The selected team is the best combination which was picked on the basis of their camp performance as well as considering their overall utility for the team,” the head coach said. Ruben Wolochin hoped to make the event count. “Pakistan volleyball faces many challenges ahead. I am confident that the event will prove a stepping stone to reach new heights. We have got some exciting talent in our ranks. Hopefully in days to come these talented players will make a name for themselves and for the country.”

Besides Pakistan, Asian champions Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are participating in the eight-day long event. PVF Chairman Chaudhary Muhammad Yaqoob hoped that the event would provide exciting volleyball for the fans.

“The Engro Central Asian Volleyball League promises to be a thrilling competition, bringing together top teams from the region to compete for glory and recognition. Fans and supporters are invited to come and cheer teams on what could be seen as prospects of exciting matches.”

According to the draws of Engro Central Asian Volleyball League, Pakistan will play opening match against Afghanistan on May 11, match against Sri Lanka on May 12, against Turkmenistan on May 13, against Kyrgyzstan on May 15 and Iran on May 16. The final of the league will be played on May 17.
