The 2024 Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes, is set to face the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, confirmed Chief Content Officer WWE Triple-H on Thursday.

Rhodes had been the focal point of the #WeWantCody trend on social media, with wrestling fans showing full support for him. The American Nightmare made his official decision for WrestleMania 40.

Cody was given the chance to pick his opponent for WrestleMania 40 after winning the Royal Rumble for the second consecutive year.

The WrestleMania XL Kickoff Press Show concluded in a fiery and deafening manner. While fans weren't entirely against The Rock, there was a loud "Rocky Sucks" chant as well.

Rhodes interrupted the collision course and confrontation between The Rock and Roman Reigns, declaring, "This is nonsense." He emerged and announced that he is selecting Roman Reigns as his opponent for WrestleMania 40.

The Rock didn't appear pleased that his WrestleMania 40 match had been hijacked because Roman Reigns himself opted to face The People's Champ.

The Rock then posted an image illustrating the significance of The Bloodline and the esteemed Samoan wrestling lineage. Nevertheless, the crowd remained firmly in support of Rhodes.

In a dramatic conclusion to the press conference, The Rock slapped The American Nightmare before several individuals rushed to the stage to separate them - including Triple H himself.

While Cody vs. Roman Reigns is now confirmed, The Rock is evidently unhappy and directed a string of insults towards Triple H backstage.

Earlier, it was reported that WWE is adamant about keeping The Rock vs. Roman Reigns as the headline match for WrestleMania 40, despite significant backlash involving The Rock, Reigns, and the overlooked Rhodes.

Sources indicated that The Rock's participation in the ring at WrestleMania 40 was confirmed, stating, "There is 'no scenario' where Rock is not wrestling Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, unless something unforeseen happens, like an injury."

However, that may no longer be the case after Thursday night’s events.
