Pat McAfee (right) gets a high-five from Michael Cole as they announce their return - WWE

The road to World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) WrestleMania XL is off to an interesting start with Monday Night Raw unveiling Pat McAfee and Michael Cole as their new commentary team.

McAfee returned to Raw in Tampa, Florida on Monday after his appearance as a guest commentator at Saturday's Royal Rumble event. He was part of the 30-man over-the-top-rope melee, showcasing his exceptional in-ring acumen.

The 36-year-old former National Football League pro greeted his former colleague, Cole at the ringside table, Daily Mail reported.

Cole announced that he and McAfee will be representing Monday Night Raw as the newest commentary team, hopefully bringing back their excellent comradery from their SmackDown days.

With his new position at the ringside table, McAfee is piling more onto his already full plate of commitments and shows.

McAfee, previously a colour commentator for WWE's Smackdown on Friday nights, left the role to focus on his new role at ESPN, with "The Pat McAfee Show" moving to "The Worldwide Leader" and Pat joining the desk for College GameDay.

The "Pat McAfee Show" airs weekly, while GameDay travels every Saturday to a new location in American college football. McAfee's willingness to add another responsibility, travelling at least once a week, is surprising.

The WWE’s latest move comes less than a week after it signed a new rights deal with Netflix for 2025.

Meanwhile, it's unclear if McAfee will continue in this role during the college football season, but he has publicly committed to staying on College GameDay for 2024.
