The chief selector of the Pakistan men's cricket team Wahab Riaz shared big news about pacer Naseem Shah as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 approaches.

Riaz, who was recently appointed as the chief selector, was talking to the media at a local school where he confirmed that Naseem would be fit by the time PSL 9 starts.

"Naseem Shah will be completely fit till PSL," confirmed Riaz during a media talk. "I have met with Naseem and his rehabilitation program is going very well."

Yesterday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had also provided a major update on Naseem.

“Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah started the final stage of his rehabilitation today at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore,” the PCB said in a press release on Wednesday.

“The young pacer was injured during the Asia Cup in September, after which he underwent surgery in the United Kingdom. Following the surgery, he remained in the UK for two months for rehabilitation and initial training as the PCB covered his medical costs and he received continuous care from a team of expert medical staff.

“Naseem’s rehabilitation is being continued at NCA, Lahore under the care of a strength and conditioning coach, a physiotherapist and a doctor. Currently, he is doing light gym exercises and partial bowling practice and will start batting tomorrow.”

The former pacer also talked about Test captain Shan Masood saying that he didn't get a lot of chances to prove his worth.

"Shan Masood didn't get consistent opportunities earlier, he is a fantastic performer of domestic [cricket]," he added.

Riaz, who represented Pakistan in 154 international matches, hoped that they would announce the squad for the T20I series against New Zealand soon which is to be played in January. He also confirmed that the top performer of the ongoing National T20 Cup would be invited to the camp.

"We are hoping to announce the squad for the T20I series against New Zealand by December 25. We will invite the top performers of the National T20 Cup to the camp.

"We will invite the top domestic players and the potential T20 stars in our camp."

At the end, he also congratulated the Pakistan women's cricket team who had earlier created history as they became the first women's Asian side to beat New Zealand at their home.
