Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are likely to remove KL Rahul as captain for the remaining two round games of the ongoing IPL 2024 season, reported Indian media.

LSG are teetering at sixth with chances of qualifying for the playoffs minimal after a crushing 10-wicket defeat from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Rahul was roped in before the auction in 2022 for a record INR 17 crore and is unlikely to be retained before the mega auctions in 2025.

There is speculation that he might step down on his own and concentrate on batting during the next two games.

Remember, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka appeared visibly displeased and lashed out at Rahul after the defeat against SRH.

Rahul seemed noticeably deflated, further exacerbated by what appeared to be a rebuke from Goenka.

The franchise owner engaged in an animated discussion with the team captain, indicating his dissatisfaction with certain aspects.

In a widely circulated video online, Goenka can be seen reprimanding KL Rahul. Despite this, the LSG skipper maintained his composure.

LSG, who chose to bat first, struggled to make an impact, posting a modest total of 165 runs. Initially faltering at 66/4, they were rescued by Nicholas Pooran (48*) and Ayush Badoni (55*), whose unbeaten 99-run partnership salvaged their innings.

Later, LSG failed to apply pressure on Sunrisers Hyderabad with the ball, struggling to contain Abhishek Sharma (75*) and Travis Head (89*).

The duo wreaked havoc on the opposition's bowling lineup, effortlessly chasing down the target within overs.
