Pakistan cricket team's captain Babar Azam was conferred with Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the country's third-highest civilian award, on Thursday (today) in Lahore.

Taking to twitter, Babar shared his feelings on receiving the award and dedicated the accolade to his parents, fans and entire Pakistani nation.

"Immense honour to have received Sitara-e-Imtiaz in the presence of my mother and father. This award is for my parents, fans and the people of Pakistan," he wrote. 

Babar, one of the top players across the world right now, became the youngest person to receive Sitara-e-Imtiaz. 

Previously, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed held the record as the youngest person to be awarded the prestigious award.

Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan to the Champions Trophy title in 2017, was conferred with the award by then Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair at the Governor House in Karachi in 2018.

Apart from Babar and Sarfaraz other cricketers who have received the award include Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Yousuf, Saeed Ajmal, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad.

Earlier this year, Azam had bagged the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men's Cricketer of 2022. Azam was also named captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year. Meanwhile, he also clinched the award for ICC ODI Player of the Year
