France's defender Benjamin Pavard has been accused of cultivating a "toxic" environment in Les Bleus' FIFA World Cup 2022 camp following his disagreement with head coach Didier Deschamps.

The full-back also made a string of 'inappropriate' comments about his teammates during their FIFA World Cup final loss to Argentina at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

Although Pavard was a member of France's starting lineup for their 4-1 triumph against Australia in the tournament opener, he did not play again after Jules Kounde took his place late in that win.

Kounde was Deschamps' first-choice right-back in Qatar after win over Australia, while assistant manager Guy Stephan argued that this was a "sporting" decision.

After Australia's victory, the French newspaper L'Equipe said that the player got criticism from both Deschamps and his teammates, although veteran players Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris reportedly expressed their support for the player.

However, the French journalist Romain Molina claimed that Pavard caused considerable issues in the French team's locker room during the FIFA World Cup, with his teammates accusing him of divulging sensitive information to the media.

Despite previously being regarded as one of Deschamps' favourite players by other teammates, the Bayern Munich star is first claimed to have had a falling-out with the coach.

Pavard apparently refused to accept Deschamps' and his coaching staff's criticism and responded with his own feelings, which sparked a furious argument behind the scenes.

However, it's believed that things reached a boiling point during Sunday's final match against Argentina when Deschamps confronted the player after hearing him making "inappropriate" remarks about his teammates while sitting on the bench.

It must be noted here that the South American side beat France 4-2 on penalties.

In the penalty shootouts, France missed two out of four, while Argentina converted all four to clinch their third FIFA World Cup.
