Masha United set a new record of most goals scored in a single match of the National Women Football Championship by defeating Karachi Women Football Club (KWFC) 35-0 in the port city on Tuesday.

KWFC started the match with only eight players and had already conceded nine goals before they could complete their line-up of 11 players.

Masha, coached by Nasir Ismail, started with an early lead when Areeba kicked the ball into the net less than half a minute after the kick-off.

KWFC could hardly retain possession in the match as Masha United remained aggressive throughout and kept attacking the opponents’ goal.

Their Nepalese signing Anita KC ran riots, scoring 16 goals to soar to the top of leading goal scorer chart of the tournament. Her total tally in the tournament now stands at 24.

Anita was followed by her countrywoman Sara Limbu, who scored 10 goals in the 35-0 mauling.

Areeba scored three while Samroz Samreen and Gita Rana scored two goals each. The haplessness of KWFC was reflected in the fact that even goalkeeper Anjila Tumpabo Subba scored twice for Masha.

The scoreline of 35-0 overtook the previous record of 32-0 by WAPDA against Peshawar in 2008.

Masha will next play Karachi United on Thursday. Both the teams have confirmed their berth in the quarter-final but the match will decide who will enter the next stage as group toppers.

Earlier, in the last match of group A, Hazara Girls Academy downed Gilgit Women Football Club to qualify for the final eight.

Zohra Nasir scored in the 84th minute to help her side secure the win. Hazara Girls FA have joined WAPDA from group A in the quarters.

In another match from Group B, HEC finally opened their account and defeated Sialkot WFC 10-0.

Anmol Hira scored a hat-trick while Samana Baig and Sidra scored two goals each for HEC.

This was HEC’s first win in the tournament. However, they had already been eliminated from qualification race.
