Pakistan players mourn passing of former U19 Manager Ali Zia

He was under treatment at a private hospital in Lahore for the past ten days

LAHORE: Ali Zia, former first-class cricketer and ex-senior GM at the National Cricket Academy, has passed away at the age of 66, Geo News reported on Saturday.

Ali Zia's son, Hasan Zia, confirmed his demise. He was under treatment at a private hospital in Lahore for the past ten days.

He served PCB as the manager of the Pakistan U19 teams and contributed in various capacities at the National Cricket Academy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), many former and current cricket stars reacted to the news.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board is saddened by the passing of Ali Zia. The entire PCB family extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Ali Zia. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace," the cricket board said in a statement.

Test captain Shan Masood, Azhar Ali, Shadab Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq and others extended their condolences to Zia's family.

Ali Zia scored 8,579 runs and claimed 241 wickets from 165 first-class matches he played.
