Manchester United are reportedly pursuing former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who recently joined the Saudi Pro League club, Al-Ittihad, on a big-money deal.

Benzema is not having the best time in the Gulf Country and is seeking a way out. With Man United having troubles to fix their attacking issues, the 35-year-old emerged as the hot favourite to rescue Erik Ten Hag’s sinking ship.

Former United defender, Rio Ferdinand, was active on his YouTube channel where he addressed the potential arrival of the 2022 Ballon D’Or winner saying that one cannot say no to a signing as big as Benzema.

“That’s just going back to old, what we’ve been doing before. We’ve done it with Cristiano [Ronaldo], we’ve done it with Falcao, we’ve done it with [Edinson] Cavani, we’ve done it with Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]. Listen, Benzema… how can you say no? How can you say no to that signing?” Ferdinand said.

He also added that Benzema’s arrival would provide much-needed support to Rasmus Hojlund, who is having a difficult time adjusting to life at the Manchester club as, in 25 matches this season, the Dutch only managed to net seven, with only two of them coming in the Premier League.

“One thing I would say, one person who needs that more than anyone else around right now is Rasmus Hojlund. He needs that somebody to look at and learn from.

“I remember when we had Danny Welbeck coming into the first-team and he’s looking up to Cristiano, [Wayne] Rooney, [Carlos] Tevez and those guys. Diego Forlan comes in, a young Uruguayan striker, and you’ve got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruud van Nistelrooy he’s backing up.

“Chicharito, the same thing, they’re looking on and going: 'That’s what a real striker is! That is how a true No.9 operates and I’m going to follow that'. Hojlund is looking at himself in the mirror! That’s it.”

While there have been serious reports of Man United considering a move for the former Lyon striker, the club, as of yet, has not made any contact with the Frenchman.
