The President’s Trophy is scheduled to commence on 16th December 2023. This first-class tournament will run until 31st January 2024 and will be hosted at three venues in Karachi: the National Bank Stadium, UBL Sports Complex, and SBP Sports Complex.

Seven departmental teams will engage in round-robin matches, amounting to a total of 22 games. These matches will be distributed across seven rounds of league-stage encounters, culminating in a five-day final between the top two teams from 27th to 31st January 2024.

The President’s Trophy heralds the return of departmental cricket in the domestic structure, following the reimplementation of the PCB 2014 Constitution. The previous edition of the President’s Trophy took place in the 2018-19 domestic season, with the State Bank of Pakistan emerging as the winner.

The reintroduction of departmental cricket offers players an additional opportunity for earnings, as they will be able to participate in supplementary tournaments after the conclusion of the region-based domestic tournament cycle. This cycle included events such as the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (won by Karachi Whites), the Pakistan Cup (won by Peshawar), and the National T20 Cup (won by Karachi Whites).

The seven teams participating in the upcoming tournament are as follows: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Pakistan Television (PTV), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Higher Education Commission (HEC), and Ghani Glass.

Nadeem Khan, Director – Domestic Cricket Operations, said: “The return of departmental cricket will benefit all the stakeholders. We are hoping that the President’s Trophy will bring even more depth and competition to our domestic circuit.

“We have added HEC and Ghani Glass to this first-class tournament on a probationary basis. We will closely monitor the performances of these two teams in this edition and make decisions about their involvement in the proceeding season based on their competitiveness at the first-class level.”
