Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has said that pacer Hasan Ali should have played the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Tuesday.

New Zealand reached 165-0 at stumps on day two of the first Test against Pakistan.

The visitors still trail by 273 runs after Pakistan posted 438 in their first innings.

Tom Latham and Devon Conway were unbeaten on 78 and 82 runs, respectively, at the close of play.

Pakistan bowlers struggled to apply pressure on the Kiwi batters throughout the innings on the second day, with a benign pitch not helping their cause.

After Pakistan struggled with the ball, Ajmal opined that Ali should've been included in the playing eleven for the opening Test.

"Pakistan's batting is good these days instead of bowling. New Zealand batted brilliantly against Pakistan's new bowling attack as they are 165 for no loss. Just like England, New Zealand exposed Pakistan's bowling attack."

"All bowlers couldn't take a wicket. As I said before, Hasan Ali should've played the first Test as he has experience in 17-18 Tests. I don't know but it's the decision of the new management and selection committee," Ajmal said on his official YouTube channel.

Ajmal also said that he doesn't think that the Kiwi batters will get out easily.

Earlier, Pakistan were dismissed for 438 in their first innings.

Babar Azam, 161, and Agha Salman, 103, scored centuries for the hosts.

Salman was the last Pakistani player to be dismissed but not before scoring his maiden ton in the longest format of the game. He was the star of the show on the second day of the match after skipper Azam was dismissed, without adding to his overnight score, in the first over of the day.

Salman's 155-ball 103 included 17 fours. He added 54 crucial runs for the seventh wicket with Nauman Ali, who played a gritty knock of seven runs in 75 balls.

The visitors were in a position to dismiss Pakistan for less than 400 but Salman added 63 runs for the final two wickets, with the tailenders, to frustrate the Kiwis.
