Lionel Messi achieved another milestone during first semi-final against Croatia in FIFA World Cup 2022

In 32nd minute of the big match, Messi scored a goal through penalty to become Argentina's highest goal-scorer in tournament's history.

Before this match, Messi was holding the record alongside Gabriel Batistuta as joint-leading scorer in the FIFA World Cup with 10 goals.

Now, Messi leads the chart with 11 goals in the mega event from his country. Diego Maradona and Guillermo Stabile had eight each, Mario Kempes had six and Gonzalo Higuain had five.

Messi also equalled the record of Brazil's Pele for the most assists in the knockout phase (6). Messi assisted Julian Alvarez to score third leading goal against Croatia in knockout match.

The forward has now five goals in this year's mega event. In 2014 when Argentina last played FIFA World Cup final, Messi had four goals, one assist and one golden ball trophy.
