Messi and Alvarez celebrate goal against Croatia in semi-final - FIFA

Lionel Messi led Argentina from the front as they beat Croatia by 3-0 to qualify for the final of FIFA World Cup 2022.

After taking 2-0 lead before half-time, Argentina were already on the front to qualify for the FIFA World Cup final for the sixth time in their football history.

Two-time FIFA World Cup champions had their star player and captain in great form. The PSG forward assisted two goals after successfully netting the penalty shootout.

The boys in the combination of light blue and white jersey were on song after they won a penalty in 32nd minute.

Croatia's goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, in an attempt to defend against Julian Alvarez, made a foul to hand Argentina a penalty chance.

Messi did no mistake and struck on the right corner of the goal post to take 1-0 lead for his team. Alvarez, 22, in 39th minute displayed a perfect sprint after Messi assisted him to create a chance from half line.

From half line towards the goal, Alvarez deceived three defenders to stab the ball.

With a 2-0 lead, Argentina walked out at half time in full confidence. FIFA World Cup 2018's finalists Croatia had to plan something different to break Argentina's defense and score their first goal. But, they failed to do so.

In 69 minute, Messi once again showed his experience and single-handedly deceived defenders to assist Alvarez to score another goal. The duo made clever move to create a chance for their team to ensure 3-0 victory and qualification to the final match.

Messi's goals tally reached 11 which is highest-ever by any Argentinian in the FIFA World Cup's history.

Argentina will now face either France or Morocco in the final on Sunday [December 18]. Defending champions France will take on Morocco in second semi-final tomorrow at 12am (PST).
