DOHA: Lionel Messi led Argentina from the front as they beat Mexico by 2-0 to keep their round of 16 qualification hopes alive in FIFA World Cup 2022.

Messi's clean strike in the 64th minute gave Argentina a much-needed breakthrough after coming from an upset defeat at the hands of minnows Saudi Arabia.

The two teams had a pretty frustrating first half where they both tried chances but couldn't finish it off well.

After scoring a convincing goal, Messi registered his name with most goals (8) in FIFA World Cup history.

In 87th minute, Enzo Fernandez netted the ball to ensure a comeback victory for world number three side.
