DOHA: France defender Raphael Varane has acknowledged that Manchester United players are affected by Cristiano Ronaldo's fiery interview in which he criticised the club and manager Erik ten Hag.

Speaking to Piers Morgan on TalkTV, Ronaldo claimed that he felt betrayed by the club and that certain United executives were attempting to force him out.

"I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me. Not only the coach but another two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed," the Portuguese forward said.

In response to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner's remarks, Manchester United said they are "considering response".

Meanwhile, United teammate Varane admitted Ronaldo's remarks affected his club teammates.

"Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening and what is being said. We try to calm the situation in our own way, we try not to get too involved in it.," the defender told French radio station Europe 1.

"When it’s a star like Cristiano Ronaldo, even more, so we try to take it with distance, that is to say, that we do not try to change the situation alone, we are part of a collective.

"What I want is the best for my team so whatever the decision (by the club), as a player, we will accept it and give the best of ourselves.

France are without N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, who were ruled out of the mega event after their respective injuries.

The 2018 World Champions will kick off their campaign when they take on Australia at the Al Wakrah Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 23.
