KARACHI: Argentina's football star Lionel Messi said this year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be his last appearance in the mega event.

In his latest interview with ESPN just a month before FIFA World Cup, Messi said he will represent Argentina for the last time in the extravaganza.

"It's my last World Cup, surely," Messi was quoted saying. "I'm counting down the days to the World Cup. There is anxiety and nerves at the same time. Wanting it to be now, what is going to happen, and ultimately, how is it going to go?" he added.

Messi made his international debut in 2005 and made a total of 164 appearances for Argentina, scoring 90 goals. He represented Barcelona for a long period of time before moving to Paris St-Germain (PSG) in 2021.
