KARACHI: Just one year after leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku returned on a season-long loan.

Lukaku left Inter last summer when Chelsea paid a club-record £97.5 million for him, but before Christmas he expressed his desire to return to Inter and stated he was "not happy."

For Lukaku, who helped Inter win the Serie A in 2020–21, Inter has agreed to pay a loan fee of approximately £6.9 million.

Despite not being a regular starter for Chelsea last season, the Belgian striker scored 15 goals in all competitions.

It is believed that Lukaku was willing to accept a pay reduction in order to return to Inter, but the club's financial position prevented them from matching his salary or purchasing the forward altogether.

But last week, president Steven Zhang directly participated in the negotiations, which was considered crucial.

"I'm back baby," Lukaku said in a video on Inter's Twitter handle.

"I am very happy. The big boss is back. It is like deja vu, coming back here again," Zhang added.
