Real Madrid legend Luka Modric aims to follow in the footsteps of his teammate Toni Kroos and retire at the club at the end of the next season, reported Spanish news outlet MARCA on Wednesday.

Modric, who joined Los Blancos from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, is set to continue his journey with the club for one more year as his current deal will be extended for one season.

Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti pushed for the renewals of both Kroos and Modric but the German confirmed that he will retire once this season ends which made things easier for the Croatian as the club wanted to renew Kroos’ deal for one more year.

As Modric’s renewal is almost a certainty, the Croatian wants to end his career at Real Madrid, the club he has always loved. He does not want to play in Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer (MLS) and aims to end his career at a high level in Spain.

Remember, Kroos and Modric have marked an era at Real Madrid as ever since their debut with Los Blancos, the midfielders have been a part of the regular playing XI.

They were also part of the historic Madrid side that won three UEFA Champions League in a row from 2016 to 2018 under the leadership of Zinedine Zidane.

It is worth mentioning that Madrid have already won La Liga this season and with one more match — against Real Betis — left in the league, they could finish with 99 points this season if they win their last outing of the season at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final on June 1 at England’s iconic Wembley Stadium in pursuit of their record-extending European championship.

If Madrid managed to beat Dortmund, this would be their eighth Champions League title since 2000, more than any team in the world.
