Sunrisers Hyderabad's opener Abhishek Sharma lit up the IPL 2024 with a brilliant batting display against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old smacked 75* off just 28 balls and helped SRH chase down 166 in just 9.4 overs without a loss of a wicket.

Meanwhile, his strokeplay drew comparisons from cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra to the batting style of Indian legend Yuvraj Singh.

While talking about his knock on his YouTube channel, Aakash was in awe of the uncapped batter.

“Abhishek Sharma is a very good story. If I compare their (Abhishek and Head's) hitting styles, Abhishek's style seems cleaner to me. The backlift comes nicely, it reminds you slightly of Yuvraj Singh, and the downswing is very good. You see a class in his batting,” he said.

On the other hand, he also drew a comparison with Abhishek's opening partner, Travis Head, who smashed 89* off 30 balls.

“It seems like Head is taking people's class, as though he is just beating them up, and it seems just like an extension of cricketing shots in his (Abhishek's) case. He also hits sixes. He hit six sixes and eight fours and scored 75 runs off 28 balls. If Travis Head had a strike rate of 296, he also had a strike rate close to 270,” Chopra added.

It must be noted that Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to the third spot in the IPL 2024 points table after beating Lucknow Super Giants.

Kolkata Knight Riders lead the table with 16 points while Rajasthan Royals are second with as many points.

Mumbai Indians are the only team to get eliminated from the race of the final four stages. The loser of tonight's game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings will also knock out.
