Pakistan lost their 17 straight Test in Australia - Cricket Australia

The formidable Australia have overtaken India in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings following their convincing eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Sydney Test.

After a triumphant 2023, where Pat Cummins' team secured two significant ICC titles – the World Test Championship Final and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup – Australia continue to display their dominance in 2024.

In the New Year's Test at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, the hosts secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Pakistan, completing a 3-0 series sweep and rising to the top of the World Test Championship standings.

The team also claimed the top spot in the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings after India's 1-1 series draw in South Africa on January 5.

Australia now leads the WTC table with 56.25 percentage points, surpassing India, who are now second-ranked with 54.16 percentage points.

Pakistan, now at No.6, witnessed a significant decrease in percentage points – from 45.83 before the SCG Test to 36.66 after the defeat.

However, Pakistan's second innings took a sharp turn. The Australian bowlers bundled them out for a modest 115, with Saim Ayub top-scoring with 33. Josh Hazlewood led the attack with 4/16 and received good support from experienced spinner Nathan Lyon (3/36).
