Pakistan reached 132-2 after dismissing Australia for 487 at stumps on the second day of the first Test in Perth on Friday. The visitors still trail by 355 runs in their first innings.

Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq gave Pakistan a solid start as they added 74 runs for the first wicket. However, Lyon gave Australia a breakthrough after dismissing Shafique for 42.

Captain Shan Masood looked good during his 30 runs, in 43 balls, but he was also dismissed towards the close of play after chasing a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc as Alex Carey completed the catch behind the stumps.

However, Imam played a resolute knock and was unbeaten on 38 runs while facing 136 balls.

Nightwatchman Khurram Shahzad was not out on seven runs.

Post-lunch session

Pakistan's openers made a solid start as they reached 43-0 at tea in their first innings on the second day.

Imam-ul-Haq scored nine runs and Abdullah Shafique added 25 as Pakistan batted for 20 overs in the pre-tea session.

Earlier, Australia were dismissed for 487 in their first inning as pacer Aamer Jamal, who is making his debut, claimed a six-wicket haul for Pakistan.

Jamal was on song as he claimed four out of five wickets that fell on the second day during Australia's batting. The right-armer finished with figures of 6 for 111.

The other debutant for Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad, claimed two wickets. Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf bagged one each.

David Warner top-scored for the hosts with 164 runs, meanwhile Mitchell Marsh scored quick-fire 90 runs.

First session

Australia were 476-7 at lunch on the second day with Mitchell Marsh unbeaten on 90 with the help of 15 fours and a six.

With Australia looking for quick runs, Marsh took the attack to the Pakistan bowlers as the home side scored 130 runs in 26 overs.

Aamer Jamal picked up both wickets which fell in the morning session after cleaning up Alex Carey (34) and Mitchell Starc (12).

Opening day

The home side reached 346-5 at stumps on day one with Mitchell Marsh (15) and Alex Carey (14) on the crease.

In the lead-up, former paceman Mitchell Johnson questioned whether Warner deserved a hero´s farewell given his recent poor red-ball form and involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal.

The 37-year-old Warner, in his 110th Test, responded in typical swashbuckling fashion, scoring 164 runs while hitting 16 fours and four sixes in his 211-ball knock.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and decided to bat on Thursday.

Pacers Aamir Jamal and Khurram Shahzad made their Test debut for Pakistan.

Australia made just one change to the most recent side that took the field in the Ashes finale in August at The Oval, with the fit-again Nathan Lyon replacing Todd Murphy.

Whitewashed in each of their last five Test tours of Australia, optimism will be in short supply with new captain Shan Masood's task made even more difficult by a depleted bowling corps.

The last time Pakistan won a Test Down Under was in late 1995 when nearly half of the current side were not even born, and in Pat Cummins-led Australia they face the reigning world Test champions.
