In a thrilling match, the Pakistan women's football team emerged victorious over Laos to secure the fifth place in a six-nation tournament held at the King Fahd Stadium in Taif city, Saudi Arabia.

The game, which had initially ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, saw Pakistan clinch the victory 4-2 in the penalty shootout. It was Pakistan's first-ever penalty shootout win which itself is a record.

It was Zulfia Nazeer who proved to be the star of the day by scoring the crucial goal that put Pakistan on the scoreboard today. This goal turned out to be the only one netted by the Pakistani team in the entire tournament.

Throughout the tournament, the Pakistan women's team showed mixed performance. In their earlier matches, Pakistan had faced both Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The match against Saudi Arabia resulted in a loss for the Pakistani team.

In their first game against Malaysia, the teams battled to a goalless draw despite Pakistan getting chances to score the goal.

The women’s football tournament features Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Laos, Malaysia and Bhutan.

Apart from Laos and Pakistan, remaining teams qualified for the semi-finals.
