Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja lavished praise on star batter Babar Azam after the latter scored a century during the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) on Monday.

Raja was so impressed with Azam that he even said he will ‘marry him’.

"Security, class, and quality, calmness, he is your guy in such a situation, who can bat deep in the innings. I just absolutely love him – wanna [want to] marry him," Ramiz said while commentating during the match.

Azam scored an exceptional century while representing Colombo Strikers against Galle Titans at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Titans batted first and gave Strikers a massive target of 189 runs.

In reply. Babar started Strikers’ innings with Pathum Nissanka and formed a 111-run stand with the Sri Lankan batter. The Pakistan captain reached his ton with eight fours and five sixes and scored a total of 104 runs on just 59 deliveries.

It must be noted that Raja returned as commentator for the recently-concluded Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The former opener was away from the commentary box since September 2021, when he was elected as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a period of three years.

However, Raja, along with other PCB members, was removed from the post after just one year and was replaced by a 14-member management committee led by Najam Sethi.

Raja was only the fourth former Pakistan international cricketer to lead the PCB after Abdul Hafeez Kardar (1972-1977), Javed Burki (1994-1995) and Ijaz Butt (2008-2011).

Raja was Pakistan’s 18th Test and 12th ODI captain, and featured in 255 international matches in which he accumulated 8,674 runs from 1984 to 1997.

The 60-year-old has previously served the PCB as its Chief Executive from 2003-2004, has represented Pakistan on the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee and presently sits on the MCC World Cricket Committee.

He has been a successful broadcaster with leading cricket networks all over the world and is widely considered as the voice of Pakistan cricket.
