The 34th National Games have been rescheduled as more time needed to complete preparations.

According to sources, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) in consultation with the Balochistan government needs some more time to get ready for hosting the mega event.

The event was set to take place from May 15 to 23 at the Ayub Sports Complex, Quetta. However, on the request of provincial government, the event has been rescheduled.

As per the sources, the games will now take place from May 22 to 30.

Previously, the government of Balochistan requested sports authorities to delay the games so that all the athletes and officials turning up from Punjab can cast their vote or show support to the candidates of their choice during the elections in Punjab, initially scheduled to be held on May 14.

"Such a request has been forwarded to the POA and the other authorities as well in an effort to hold the Games in a befitting manner. Since the Punjab Assembly elections are scheduled for May 14, the National Games’ period clashes with the election dates in Punjab. The Balochistan government wants the Games to start after May 20," a source had told 'The News'.

It must be noted here that Ayub Stadium, Quetta will be the main venue for the games. It has football pitch, tartan-track, two big halls for indoor games, handball court and two hockey turfs.

Athletics event will be conducted at the Army Stadium which has better tartan-track. Swimming will be held in Lahore, shooting in Jhelum, rowing in Islamabad and every effort is being made to ensure sailing competitions in Gwadar, which is the most scenic spot.

Some events will be conducted at the Balochistan University of Technology.
