Shadab Khan, Pakistan's captain for T20I series against Afghanistan, is excited and looking forward to leading a young team.
In a video interview shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tuesday, Khan, who will lead the national team in absence of regular captain Babar Azam, said the series against Afghanistan will be as exciting and enthralling as the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.
"Thanks to Allah for giving me this opportunity," said Shadab who recently got married to the daughter of Pakistan's former Test cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq.
"As you know, it's always an honor to represent Pakistan as a player. Being a captain this time brings more excitement and responsibilities too. I will try my best to lead my team from the front and make this series exciting," he mentioned.
The new captain congratulated young cricketers and discarded cricketers who earned a spot in the national team through their performance in PSL 8.
"Congratulations to all of them for making it into the national team. I am sure they will make this series interesting for all of us," said Khan while appealing to Pakistani fans to show their support like always.
On March 13, PCB announced 15-men squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan. The cricket board gave rest to their main players including captain Babar.
While keeping in mind the packed schedule of the national team ahead this year, PCB announced an inexperienced squad for three-match T20I series against Afghanistan which is scheduled at the end of March in Sharjah.
Babar, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan have been given rest. Khan, who has remained the vice-captain of Pakistan team in white-ball format, was named the captain for Afghanistan T20I series.
Players including Imad Wasim, Saim Ayub, Azam Khan, Ihsanullah and Zaman Khan, who performed during this year's PSL, have been included in 15-member squad.
