PSL 8: Saim aims to become match-winning player for Peshawar Zalmi

KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi's top-order batter Saim Ayub has said he wants to become a match-winning player for his side in the ongoing eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In an interview with Geo News, Saim said: "My goal is to become a match-winning player for my team. I will try to score maximum runs and win matches for the team. If I succeed in helping the team win, then my goal will be complete."

"Playing a good inning gives confidence, and I will try to play a match-winning innings next time," he added.

During Peshawar Zalmi's clash with Multan Sultans on February 17, Saim attracted the attention of the whole cricket fraternity with his aggressive style of play. The left-handed batter scored 53 runs off 37 balls against Multan.

Saim said that he is learning from senior players like Babar Azam and coach Darren Sammy.

"We have people like Babar Azam and Sammy on our team. I am trying to learn a lot from these seniors. I learn from the seniors what to do in different match situations. Whatever I learn, I will keep applying it in the tournament. Babar Azam supports young cricketers a lot. When there is a problem, I ask Babar what to do," he said.

The young batter stated that while it is his dream to play for Pakistan, he is currently focused on the PSL.

"Playing for the Pakistan team is everyone's dream, mine too. Currently, my focus is Pakistan Super League, I am not thinking beyond that. I am following the process, I will definitely play when I get a chance," he said.

Peshawar Zalmi have won two of their three games and will be aiming to secure their third when they take on Islamabad United in their fourth match at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Thursday.

It is worth mentioning here that the winner of PSL 8 will not only lift the Supernova Trophy but will also collect a cheque of Rs120m, while the runners-up will receive a cheque of Rs48m.

Lahore Qalandars will attempt to become the first side to win back-to-back titles; meanwhile Islamabad United will aim to become the most successful side by lifting the trophy thrice.

Rawalpindi will stage 11 fixtures, Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each, whereas Multan will have five home games.
