Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have ascended to the summit of the IPL 2024 points table following a commanding victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the KKR side secured their eighth win, elevating their points tally to 16. Despite sharing the same points as KKR, Rajasthan Royals currently occupies the second position, albeit with a game yet to be played.

In earlier match of the day, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched a 28-run victory over Punjab Kings, propelling them to third place in the points table.

Regarding the match, Sunil Narine showcased an exceptional all-round performance as KKR decimated LSG by 98 runs. Narine's blistering knock of 81 runs off 39 deliveries propelled KKR to a formidable total of 235 for 6 after being invited to bat first.

Displaying sheer dominance, Narine hammered the LSG bowlers to all corners of the ground, amassing 6 fours and 7 sixes.

In defense of this imposing target, Narine returned impressive figures of 1 for 22 in his allotted four overs. Harshit Rana emerged as the standout performer among the KKR bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs in 3.1 overs, as Lucknow Super Giants were bundled out for 137 runs.

It must be noted Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the joint-most successful teams in IPL history, with both sides clinching the title five times each.

Aside from these two, KKR has triumphed twice, while Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Deccan Chargers have each lifted the trophy once.

Despite boasting legendary figures in the shorter format such as Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, and others, Royal Challengers Bangalore have yet to claim the title despite reaching the final thrice in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
