KARACHI: Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem will be in action on Sunday (today) in the Men's Javelin Throw final in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

In the absence of India's Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, Arshad has a good chance of winning a medal, but for that, he will have to overcome several strong rivals.

Pakistani athlete Arshad, who performed prominently in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the World Athletics Championship 2022, will be the centre of attention on Sunday night. His Javelin Throw event will start at 11:40pm (PST).

Arshad is undoubtedly hoping to win a medal for Pakistan, but the athletes against him are no less. Arshad's best throw is 86.36 meters while his best throw this season is 86.16 meters.

The 2019 and 2022 world champion, and last Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Anderson Peters is the strongest athlete in the event. This year in Doha, he threw 93.07 metres which is also his personal best throw.

Kenya's Julius Yego's personal best is 92.72 metres which he achieved in 2015. However, he has not been in good form for the last two years, so it is unlikely that he will prove to be a big challenge for Arshad. His best throw this year is 80.62.

However, Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott's best throw of this season is 89.07 metres which is more than Arshad's best throw of this season.

If you look at the personal best throws of all 13 athletes participating in the event, Arshad's throw of 86.16 meters is the third best. Only Anderson and Keshorn have thrown better than him.

Looking at these figures along with the current form, it would not be wrong to say that Arshad Nadeem can win another medal for Pakistan on Sunday.
