South Africa’s Dale Steyn has been ruled out of ICC World Cup 2019’s opening match against England on Thursday.

The veteran South African cricketer has been ruled out of the tournament’s first match as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury from his stint with Indian Premier League.

South African coach Ottis Gibson regarding the player’s expected return revealed: "He is getting closer everyday; we hope that if not by Sunday [against Bangladesh] then by the India game [on 5 June]."

Steyn is the first player to be ruled out from the World Cup.

Apart from the opening match, it is predicted that the pacer may also be missing his team’s match against Bangladesh on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

South Africa will be coming face to face with World Cup favorites and host team England on Thursday May 30, 2019 at The Oval in London.
