Former Pakistani captain and a World Cup-winner Wasim Akram has said that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would have won three Indian Premier League (IPL) trophies if MS Dhoni was their captain.
RCB has never won an IPL trophy in the history of the tournament despite having all-time T20 greats like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has won the prestigious trophy four times under Dhoni’s captaincy.
"RCB would have won three IPL trophies by now if MS Dhoni was their captain. They have not won a single trophy until now. They have so much support. Also, they have the world's top modern-era player Virat, but unfortunately they have not won. If Dhoni was in RCB, he would have helped them win the title," said the former Pakistani-pacer in an exclusive chat with India’s Sportskeeda Cricket on 'What If' segment.
Akram also talked about how Dhoni gives confidence to his players by showing he is calm on the field.
"Dhoni has a habit of captaining a team. Captaincy is also a habit. Even Virat would have been habituated by now, but Dhoni has had this habit. He is not calm from inside, but he shows that he is calm,” said the 56-year-old Pakistani legend.
"When players see that their captain is chilled, keeps his hand on their shoulders, players become more confident. Dhoni is someone who knows to instill confidence in his players," Akram concluded.
RCB lost their last match to Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets on Saturday. Kohli scored a half-century but that went in vain as DC chased the target of 182 in 16.2 overs courtesy of Phil Salt’s blistering 87 runs on 45 balls.
RCB currently stands at number five in the points table with 10 points.
Meanwhile, CSK are currently on number two in the IPL points table with 13 points.
