Wahab Riaz, sports youth affairs adviser to caretaker CM Sindh Mohsin Naqvi, thanked Pakistani nation for their support and appreciation during Ramadan ul Mubarak Sports Series. 

Soon after taking charge as a government official for the very first time, Wahab was seen as too active in sports circles. 

Wahab and his department launched first-ever Ramadan ul Mubarak Sports Series featuring events of badminton, hockey, cricket (tape ball), football, kabaddi, and table tennis. 

After the completion of hockey event, Wahab took to Twitter to thanks Pakistani nation. "Congratulations Lahore Division on becoming Punjab Hockey Championship 2023 title holders. Hard luck Faisalabad Gladiators. I’m happy that our dream of hockey revival in Pakistan is supported and appreciated by the entire nation," he wrote. 

Lahore Division beat Faisalabad Gladiators in the final to lift the trophy. The winning team received PKR2.5 million. The runners-up received PKR1.5 million. 

Wahab Riaz directs upgradation of cricket grounds

Wahab Riaz visited cricket grounds in Lahore soon after taking charge as sports adviser to CM Punjab.

Wahab is upbeat to work for the betterment of sports in the province.

The cricketer expressed anger over the state of local cricket grounds in Lahore. He immediately directed upgradation of the grounds.

"We will take every possible step to revamp sports grounds in Punjab," he had said. "I will visit different sports facilities in the province to make sure that sports prevail here," he had added.

Wahab recently represented Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8. 

Wahab was named in Punjab's caretaker government as sports minister. He requested the provincial government to let him play the recently concluded PSL 8 before taking oath.

After getting free from PSL 8, the cricketer has now taken charge as advisor sports minister.

Wahab represented Peshawar Zalmi under the captaincy of Babar Azam in PSL 8. Wahab took 10 wickets in 11 matches this year. Overall, he is the highest wicket-taker in PSL with 113 wickets.
