All-rounder Imad Wasim has said that he will be honoured if the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team is offered to him but also made it clear that he will not ask the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the responsibility himself.

The PCB took the first of several key decisions earlier this month by deciding to replace Mickey Arthur and his backroom coaching staff, including batting coach Grant Flower and bowling coach Azhar Mahmood.

Also on the board’s agenda is whether to retain the 32-year-old captain Sarfaraz Ahmed or assign the leadership to someone else.

Imad, in an interview with Pak Passion, admitted that if he were to be given the job, he would obviously accept it.

“As a young cricketer, I have always wanted to play for Pakistan and being offered captaincy would be an honour for me,” he is quoted as saying.

The Wales-born cricketer, at the same time, said that he would not make a fuss if the PCB decided to retain Sarfaraz or put their faith in someone else.

“My job is to play cricket and if I am given the responsibility to captain the side, it would be great as I have never backed down from a challenge, but if not, then just being a member of the team will be an honour in itself,” Imad said.

“This is something for the PCB to decide and I would never go to them and ask for this position,” he said. “To be clear, I will be happy to serve under any player that the PCB offers the captaincy to as all I am interested in is serving my country.”
