QUETTA: National cricketer Umar Akmal is hopeful for his brother Kamran’s successful run as national men’s team selector.

Speaking to geosuper.tv on Saturday, Umar said Kamran knows cricket very well and he will give players fair chances.

“Kamran has always been very kind to not only me but all the cricketers. Everybody learns from him,” he said.

“I am sure he will give fair chances to players. I wish him best of luck,” he added.

To a query about comeback in the national side after Kamran took charge as selector, Umar said he has faith in his performance and will let his bat do the talking.

“I never tied hope with anyone. I always believe in Allah and my performance. I will try to perform and make a comeback,” he shared.

Recently, Kamran was named, alongside Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Sami, in the national selection committee chaired by former Test cricketer Haroon Rasheed.

Exhibition match

Umar, who is part of Quetta Gladiators’ squad, is also excited about the exhibition match against Peshawar Zalmi, set to be played on February 5 at Quetta’s Bugti Stadium.

“It’s an exciting moment for all of us. We are ready to see Quetta people in the ground,” he said.

“All the players are excited about this match. We will try to play competitive cricket tomorrow,” he added.

The middle-order batter said fans should come and fill the stadium.

“Come to stadium and support both teams. It will show soft image of Pakistan in the world,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Gladiators and Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi will meet in an exhibition match in the build-up to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 which is scheduled from February 13 to March 19 in Karachi, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
