Substitute fielder Tayyab Tahir was sensational in the field during the third and final ODI against New Zealand at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Friday.

Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail were unavailable for fielding as the opening batter had irritation in his right hamstring, while Haris had neck pain.

Kamran Ghulam came in for Haris as his concussion replacement, while Tayyab took Fakhar's place in the field.

The hosts struggled to take an early wicket in the series decider, with their attack bowler, Naseem Shah, missing out on the crucial clash due to fever.

However, unexpectedly, Tayyab, who is a middle-order batter helped Pakistan finally get a breakthrough as he showcased his sensational fielding skills to send Finn Allen back to the pavilion.

It is worth mentioning here that uncapped Tayyab Tahir, who had a great run in domestic tournaments, earned his maiden call in the three-match ODI series against the Kiwis.

However, the batter couldn't don the green shirt in a favourable way as he would've liked to, but the 29-year-old assisted the national side with his fielding skills and helped reduce the Black Caps to 43-1.

Earlier, Fakhar Zaman scored a century as Pakistan set New Zealand a target of 281 runs.

Zaman scored 101 runs in 122 balls with the help of 10 fours and a six.

After losing Shan Masood (0) and Babar Azam (4) early, Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan stitched a brilliant partnership of 154 runs to put New Zealand on the back foot.

Rizwan scored 77 runs, which included six boundaries, in 74 balls.

Meanwhile, Agha Salman scored 45 runs in 43 balls to provide impetus at the back end of the innings.

Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand after batting figures of 3-56.
