KARACHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 will start from Karachi instead of Multan, sources told Geo News.

According to sources, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s management committee is not convinced on hosting the opening ceremony and first match in Multan.

Karachi's National Bank Cricket Arena (NBCA) is most likely to host PSL 8's opener on February 13. Meanwhile, Multan will only get to host round stage matches.

The final schedule of PSL 8 will be announced after the conclusion of home ODI series against New Zealand.

Earlier, Multan was set to host it's first-ever PSL's opening ceremony. Multan alongside Karachi was supposed to host first phase of the league. Lahore and Rawalpindi are the two other venues for PSL 8.

Additionally, the management committee also received a detailed update on the PSL 8 last month and desired to add Quetta as the fifth venue for the eighth edition of the PCB’s annual marquee event.

To ensure Bugti Stadium was ready to host the PSL 8 matches, the Committee agreed that PCB will work closely with the local administration for upgradation and renovation of the Bugti Stadium, while separate discussions will take place between PCB security experts and local authorities to ensure the safety and security of all the participants, officials and spectators.

“I am delighted that seven years after launching the HBL Pakistan Super League, I am today announcing our commitment to add Bugti Stadium in Quetta as the fifth venue for our marquee event. Bugti Stadium is the home ground of Quetta Gladiators and we still remember the incredible scenes when the Gladiators visited the city after winning the 2019 tournament," said committee's chairman Najam Sethi.

“The passionate cricket fans of Quetta have been waiting for long to watch high-profile cricket in their backyard and I am pleased that we will now bring HBL PSL matches to their doors. In this relation, I have already spoken with influential officials in the Balochistan province, who have assured me of their complete support from event delivery perspectives," he added.

The eight edition of PSL is scheduled to be held from February 13 to March 19, 2023.
