The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Najam Sethi has opened up about the possibility of Mickey Arthur coaching the national men’s side.

While speaking to media in Karachi, Sethi said that the appointment of coaches will be finalised in the next few days.

“Arthur is currently busy with Derbyshire. We have already contacted him and asked for his opinion on coaches for Pakistan team,” said Sethi. “The final call on coaches will be made during the next 8-10 days.”

“Pakistan team was on top during Arthur’s tenure. The team was disciplined and players were always putting in the hard yards. Babar Azam was also supported by Arthur during the early stages of his career,” he added.

Arthur was in charge of the Pakistan team for three years in the past as well having taken up the mantle in 2016.

However, the PCB had decided to not renew the contracts of Arthur and his support staff, following the team's fifth-place finish at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.

Arthur's tenure with the Pakistan side was a mixed one, featuring several highs and lows. Under his tutelage, Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 triumph in England and also rose to the top of the ICC T20I Team Rankings.

It must be noted that English county side Derbyshire had secured the services of head of cricket Mickey Arthur until the end of the 2025 season, earlier in December. The ex-Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka head coach had joined the club in November 2021 on a two-year deal.

Sethi also shed light on the importance of reviving departmental cricket in Pakistan.

“The management committee has complete authority to run affairs of the PCB. Our goal is to restore the 2014 constitution. The committee will be dissolved when departments and elected bodies are formed. We wanted to raise voice for the players which has been heard,” he said.

He also brushed aside the notion that he was against commentary of former PCB Chief Ramiz Raja.

“We are not against Ramiz Raja’s commentary. I respect him and he won’t be stopped from doing commentary,” he said.

Sethi was also disappointed with the wrong details published about him on the PCB website in the past.

“Wrong facts and figures were published on the PCB website about me in the past. I had also sent a legal notice to the PCB regarding this. I will reveal the true picture when I go back to Lahore,” he concluded.
