Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed former chairman Najam Sethi as head of a 14-member committee that will work to revive the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) constitution 2014.

On Wednesday, a notification was released by the Prime Minister's house which confirmed the formation of a committee comprised of 14 members with Sethi as its head.

According to the notification, PM Shehbaz approved the names of committee members who now only need a green signal from the Federal Cabinet before coming into effect.

The committee members include Sethi (chairman), Shakil Shaikh (ex-PCB BoG), Gul Zada (ex-PCB BoG), Nauman Butt (ex-PCB BoG), Haroon Rashid (former cricketer), Sana Mir (former cricketer), Aized Sayed (ex-PCB Director National High Performance Center), Tanvir Ahmed (ex-president Larkana region), Gul Mohammad Kakar (ex-president Quetta association), Ayaz Butt (ex-PCB BoG), Shahid Afridi (former cricketer), Shafqat Rana (former cricketer), Mustafa Ramday (advocate supreme court of Pakistan), and Arif Saeed (ex-PCB BoG).

Within 120 days, the committee will revive the PCB constitution 2014 which as a result will repeal the current 2019 constitution. The committee will primarily be working to restore departments as per the constitution 2014.

Under the current 2019 constitution, the PM (who is also the patron) cannot remove a sitting chairman until the office bearer resigns or a vote of no-confidence is moved by the governing board. In 2018, Sethi resigned himself after which then PM/patron Imran Khan brought Ehsan Mani into the office.

Later in 2021, Mani refused to take an extension which resulted in Ramiz's arrival as PCB chairman.

Ramiz, who is silent on this matter, is likely to not resign. In this case, the sitting government, under clause 47 of the 2019 constitution, can make amendments to the constitution and bring change in the chairmanship.
