He achieved the feat by providing the cross for Phil Foden's goal in the second half.

Kane made a superb pass to Foden in the box, who scored his first World Cup goal just seconds after Marcus Rashford put the team ahead with a rocket of a free-kick.

The assist, Kane's third of the competition, showed the striker's ability to support his team even when he isn't scoring goals for himself.

With England's spot in the tournament's knockout round all but guaranteed, Kane may still have up to four games left in the competition to record a fourth assist and break the previous mark for English players.

England won Group B with nine goals, but none came from its most prolific forward.

Kane, who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Russia and is two goals shy of Wayne Rooney's all-time record for England of 53 goals, has nevertheless made a significant impact.

It must be noted here that along with Kylian Mbappé, Cody Gakpo, and Enner Valencia, Rashford is the tournament's co-leading scorer.
