The Indian government on Monday imposed a near curfew in occupied Kashmir and locked up local leadership in yet another bid to muzzle dissent over its revocation of the region’s special constitutional status.

The latest show of power in the valley has earned New Delhi censure from all over the world. Personalities from the world of sports, especially cricket, have also come forward to show their support for the people of Kashmir in these trying times.

Pakistan Women’s cricket superstar Sana Mir prayed that “may peace prevail... and may the greed for power and control diminish.”

Star cricketer Shahid Afridi also spoke up and stated that "Kashmiris must be given their due rights as per the UN resolution." He further urged the UN and POTUS to take action against the "unprovoked aggression and crimes" happening in the region.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal explained that “killing innocent people doesn’t show how much powerful you are” as he urged the Indian government to “be human, be gentle, be kind and stop killing innocent Kashmiris.”

Legendary Javed Miandad said that “Kashmir is bleeding again and so is my heart” as he called out the “cowards [who are] killing innocent people”.
