T20 World Cup: Amir wants Babar, Rizwan to come out of 'comfort zone'

KARACHI: Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has a word of advice for the Men in Green openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

The left-armer believes that the duo should come out of their comfort zone during the T20 World Cup 2022.

"As part of the World Cup campaign, I think the opening pair should come out of their comfort zone because the whole team relies on them. Whenever we talk, we only hear that the team does not do anything if our openers return back to the pavilion," Amir told ICA Sports in an interview.

Amir also reiterated that left-hander Fakhar Zaman should be one of the openers for Pakistan due to his aggressive approach.

"I always wanted to see Fakhar Zaman opening the innings for Pakistan whenever someone asks me about this, so it's my honest opinion,” he said.

The 30-year-old also highlighted the importance of strike-rate in the shortest format of the game, especially for an opener.

"The strike rate matters the most in the T20 format, whether someone considers it or not. As an opener, if you are scoring 30-ball 35 runs, I don't think it is beneficial for the team, and if you are comfortable as an opener playing shots so you can score 50 runs in 30 balls as well,” he said.

It must be noted that Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with match against India on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
