KARACHI: Just a week after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s announcement of its first-ever women's league, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also ready with a women's franchise league proposed for next year.
ESPNcricinfo, on Thursday, reported that BCCI has decided to stage an Indian Premier League (IPL)-like franchise league for women cricketers next year in March.
According to the report, India's first-ever women's IPL will feature five franchises. The proposed plan involves a total of 22 matches in the league, which is likely to be held in March 2023.
The BCCI will present the women's IPL plan at the AGM next week but a final decision will be taken by the IPL Governing Council chairman along with the BCCI office bearers.
Last week at the opening ceremony of first-of-its-kind Pakistan Junior League (PJL), PCB chairman Ramiz Raja unveiled The Women's League.
Featuring four franchises, The Women's League will take place from March 3 to 18, 2023 in Rawalpindi alongside Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8. The schedule of The Women's League and women's IPL may clash next year.
