Mohammad Amir not a good example for young cricketers: Kamran Akmal
Veteran cricketer fears that other young cricketers could follow the left-arm seamer’s lead.
Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has criticised Mohammad Amir for quitting Test cricket at the tender age of 27, saying that the fast bowler’s decision “has not left a good example for young cricketers”.
Akmal, in an interview with CricketPakistan.com.pk, said that Amir has made the wrong call by retiring from the five-day format so early.
He said that domestic cricketers are being alienated from longer formats due to selection criteria being based heavily on performances in T20 leagues.
Akmal said that Amir’s decision caught him by surprise and that he expected the left-arm seamer to play Test cricket for five to six years.
He expressed his fear that more young cricketers could follow Amir’s lead and quit the longer formats in favour of shorter ones.
Amir retired from Test cricket last week in order to “concentrate on white-ball cricket”.
